Concordia (Calif.) Stays at No. 1 for Fourth Straight Week in NAIA Men's Soccer Top 25

Oct. 10, 2007

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Concordia (Calif.) held at No. 1 for the fourth straight week while Berry (Ga.) made the biggest jump in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's Soccer Top 25 Poll, announced this afternoon (Oct. 10). Concordia (Calif.), who sports a perfect 11-0-0 record, tallied 12 of 14 first-place votes and a total 348 points. Berry made the upward move seven spots to No. 7 thanks to a 3-2, double overtime victory against then-No. 6 Lee (Tenn.) last Friday. The win was Berry's eighth straight and handed them the Southern State Athletic Conference (SSAC) Championship.

No. 2 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and No. 3 Graceland (Iowa), who earned two first-place votes, both hold their same spots from the previous poll. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Southern Nazarene (Okla.) stand at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Azusa has earned a Top 10 placing in all seven polls this year. For the third straight week, Graceland has received two first-place votes.

Four teams in this week's Top 25 hail from Region II, which is comprised of the California Pacific Conference (CPC) and the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) - No. 1 Concordia, No. 2 Azusa Pacific, No. 10 Fresno Pacific and No. 19 Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.). Concordia and Azusa have been rated in the Top 10 in all seven polls this year while another region team, Holy Names (Calif.) is in the "others receiving" category this time with three votes.

Three teams are in the Top 25 for the first time in 2007:  No. 20 (tie) Warner Southern (Fla.), No. 25 McKendree (Ill.) and No. 25 Notre Dame (Ohio). One additional school, No. 23 Bethel (Tenn.), finds itself in the ratings after a four-week hiatus. Warner Southern has won four straight including a 2-0 win against then-No. 21 Embry-Riddle (Fla.), which knocked Embry out of the Top 25.

The seventh regular season Top 25 poll (eighth overall) will be released on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
