Sioux Falls (S.D.) Claims No. 1 Spot Again in Football Top 25 Poll

Sioux Falls (S.D.) Claims No. 1 Spot Again in Football Top 25 Poll

Sept. 10, 2007

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) remained at the top and claimed all 17 possible first-place votes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Football Top 25 Poll, announced this afternoon. USF, who defeated Midland Lutheran (Neb.) 69-3 last Saturday, started the season at No. 1 in the preseason poll. The same team stayed at No. 2 as St. Francis (Ind.) posted 408 total points, just 17 shy of Sioux Falls.

St. Xavier (Ill.) jumped up two spots to No. 3 this week while Carroll (Mont.) stayed at No. 4 and Northwestern (Iowa) slid up to No. 5. Five teams found themselves in the Top 25 after being left out in the preseason. Graceland had perhaps the biggest jump of any team as the YellowJackets took down then-No. 3 Missouri Valley 28-23 on the road last Saturday. Graceland is tied with Morningside (Iowa) at No. 19.

The poll was voted upon by a 17 member-panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents.

The second regular season poll will be released on Monday, Sept. 17.
