KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Drew Sain of Davenport (Mich.) has been named the NAIA National Baseball Pitcher of the Week and Ryne Otis of Taylor (Ind.) has been tabbed National Baseball Player of the Week, the national office announced on Tuesday. Sain and Otis were selected based on their performances from March 19 – 25 and were chosen out of a poll of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

Sain, a native of Momence, Ill., pitched Davenport’s third no-hitter in school history in the Panther’s 5-0 win against Lourdes (Ohio) on March 24. The junior right-hander finished the contest with a season-high six strikeouts, while allowing no hits and only three runners (two hit-by-pitch and one walk) in seven innings of work.

On the season, Sain is second on the team with a 3-0 record and owns a 5.66 earned run average in six appearances (20.2 innings).

Otis, a native of Ossian, Ind., hit .474 (9-for-19) to lead Taylor to a 5-1 record last week, including double-header sweeps of Webber International (Fla.) (March 19) and Goshen (Ind.) (March 24). The senior first baseman totaled two doubles, five home runs, 13 RBIs, 10 runs scored and a 1.368 slugging percentage during the week. In the Trojans 7-2 game-one victory against Webber International, Otis drove in a season-high five runs, including a three-run home run in the top of the fourth, which gave Taylor a 7-0 lead. Against Mid-Central College Conference foe Goshen, he concluded the double-header 4-for-6 at the dish, including two home runs and four RBIs in game-one of the March 24 double-header.

On the season, Otis ranks 11th nationally with a .814 slugging percentage, while leading the team in multi-hit games (8), multi-RBI games (4), batting average (.373), hits (22), triples (2), home runs (6) and RBIs (20).
