LEWISTON, Idaho – LSU Shreveport (La.) and Grand View (Iowa) combined for five home runs, but the Pilots were able to make a first-inning lead stick, improving to 55-0 with a 6-3 win over the Vikings in the second game of the 2025 Avista NAIA World Series in Lewiston.

The Pilots spread nine hits through the lineup, two by Jackson Syring including a home run, as Syring and Diego Aragon drove in two runs each. Grand View (38-13) had four hits from the top of its lineup, as designated hitter Brock Johnson was 2-for-5 with an RBI from the leadoff spot, and Patrick Bergkamp was 2-for-4. Brock Rinehart had two RBIs for the Vikings, including a home run.

Austin Gomm hit the first home run of the 2025 World Series in the bottom of the first, a two-run shot with Josh Gibson aboard to give the Pilots an early 2-0 lead.

LSU Shreveport looked like it might add on, loading the bases in the second with nobody out, but Grand View starter Kaleb Kreir sandwiched a strikeout with two fly balls to get out of the jam. The Pilots would add a third run in the third on Syring’s solo homer, and in the fourth, Aragon hit the Pilots’ third homer of the game, going in front 5-0.

Grand View did get on the board in the top of the fifth on Johnson’s solo home run, and Rinehart homered in the eighth, a two-run shot that answered a seventh-inning Pilot run to trail 6-3.

Isaac Rhode gained the win for LSUS, striking out five and improving to 15-0, and Brock Lucas picked up his third save of the season for the Pilots. Krier absorbed the loss for Grand View despite six innings and three strikeouts.

LSUS moves into Monday’s winner’s bracket game against defending national champion Hope International (Calif.), and Grand View is back on the field Saturday at 3 p.m. to meet Cumberlands (Ky.) in an elimination game. Both games, and the entire Series, will air on the NAIA Network and Urban Edge Network at www.naia.org/watch.
