Midland (Neb.) Posts Highest Preliminary Score to Open 2025 Nfinity NAIA Competitive Dance Championship

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The 2025 Nfinity NAIA Competitive Dance National Championship, held at the George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti, Mich., saw all 12 qualifying teams lay down preliminary scores Friday evening. The ninth annual event, hosted by the Ann Arbor Sports Commission, sees preliminary round scores counting as 25 percent of the combined total, leaving the last 75 percent of the score to be calculated from Saturday’s Finals performances. 

Prelims Performance Highlights

  • The performance order for Friday was determined by random draw, with at-large qualifiers competing first, followed by automatic qualifiers.
  • Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) and Saint Mary (Kan.) are each performing at the national championships for the first time in program history.
  • Midland (Neb.) posted a round high of 92.43, followed by the reigning national champions from St. Ambrose (Iowa) with a score of 91.50.
  • Grand View (Iowa) and Oklahoma City were the other teams to post first-round scores in the 80s, with 87.20 and 85.53, respectively.
  • Aquinas (Mich.), Baker (Kan.), Grand View (Iowa), Midland (Neb.), Oklahoma City, and St. Ambrose (Iowa) have qualified for the championship each season the NAIA has hosted the competition.
  • Nine of the 12 teams competed in the 2024 edition of the event.
  • St. Ambrose (Iowa) has won the most Red Banners in NAIA history, with four, including the last two titles. 
  • Midland (Neb.) and St. Ambrose (Iowa) were the only two teams who did not receive any deductions.
  • The teams will be back on the mat Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m. ET and will perform in reverse order of their scores today. Squads with the lowest prelim score will perform first, while the top score from the first round will be the final performance.
