URBANA, Ohio - Blue Knight senior wide receiver Marc Burr helped open Ellis Field at Urbana University (Ohio) Stadium Saturday by making school history. Burr broke the school record for touchdown receptions scored in a single game in Urbana's 52-7 win against Southern Virginia University at the stadium's grand opening. Burr took over the record, previously held by Lance Predmore (1998) and Matt Miranda (1998), with a 23-yard pass from junior quarterback Ryan Gehlert -his fourth and longest TD reception of the day - with 54 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
"Breaking the record is a great accomplishment for all of the receivers. It is a reflection of all the hard work Coach (Deon) Doster and the receivers put in," said Burr.
Burr had eight receptions for 89 yards on the day, after playing minimally in the second half.
"Marc prepared himself all week which made things easier for him on Saturday," wide receivers coach Deon Doster had to say of Burr's performance. "He is always trying to get better and working hard, and it is clearly paying off."
Last season Burr caught 36 passes for 350 yards, second highest on the team. His 36 receptions tied for the team lead. Burr had one touchdown reception all of last season.
"His performance so far this season speaks for itself. He works extremely hard on and off the field, and carries himself in a first-class manner," said UU Head Coach Tim Place. "He is always pushing himself and that sets a great example for the team. He is very team-oriented."
Coach Place is not the only one who believes Burr is an outstanding athlete. "The entire staff and I all think he has the potential to be the best receiver in the conference," he said.
When asked of his goals for the remainder of his final season as a Blue Knight, Burr had an unselfish mind-set, more concerned with the team's success than his own.
"I hope the team will have a winning season. We want to prove that we are a class-act team," said Burr. "It's a different program this year and I would like to see all of our hard work pay off."
The Blue Knights play Central State University (Ohio) this Sunday, September 3 at 5 p.m. in the Dayton Classic II at Welcome Stadium.
