ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Lindenwood football player Jeff Hynes (Florisant, Mo./McCluer North) was recently honored as the NAIA’s 2008 Dave Rimington Award winner, which is given to the top offensive center at each level of football.
Hynes played in nine regular season games for the Lions last year and was the leader on an offensive line that allowed just five sacks all season. The Lions went 9-0 with Hynes in the lineup and averaged 41.0 points, 466.0 total offense yards, 178.4 rushing yards, and 288.4 passing yards a game.
Hynes received first-team All-HAAC honors for the second straight season and was named first-team All-American by numerous organizations.
The Dave Rimington award is sponsored by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which the former NFL quarterback founded in 1993 to raise research funds for the fight against cystic fibrosis. The award is named after a former teammate of Esiason on the Cincinnati Bengals, Dave Rimington. Rimington was an All-American center at Nebraska in 1981 and 1982 and the only double winner of the John Outland Trophy as the NCAA’s Best Interior Lineman.
Other winners of the award this year were: A.Q. Shipley (Penn State), Scott Lemn (James Madison), Sam Collins (Abilene Christian), and Josh Ostru (St. Thomas).
