2019 NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Poll - Poll Six (Oct. 21)

2019 NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Poll - Poll Six (Oct. 21)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Morningside (Iowa) claims the No. 1 spot for the sixth regular season edition of the Top 25 outscoring their opponent 366-70 on the season. Northwestern (Iowa) moved into the top five this week after a win over Concordia (Neb.) Saturday.

Top 25 Highlights (historical information dates back to 1999)

  • No. 1 Morningside maintained their perfect record after a 61-0 win over conference opponent, Jamestown (N.D.) to help them earn all 17 first place votes.
  • The victory for the No. 1 Mustangs this weekend was the fifth time this season and 11th time in the past two season that they have scored 50-or-more points.
  • Evangel (Mo.) made the biggest positive movement this week. The Crusaders jumped six spots to No. 10 after upsetting No. 5 Benedictine (Kan.) 35-21 on Saturday.
  • Waldorf made its way into the Top 25 as the only newcomer this week. The Warriors are 5-2 with their most recent victory over Dakota State 59-9.
  • Carroll (Mont.) owns the most No. 1-rankings with 57, followed by former NAIA member Sioux Falls (S.D.) (55) Morningside (35), Georgetown (Ky.) (25) and Marian (23).
  • Morningside holds the longest active streak with 156-straight Top 25 mentions.

Poll Methodology

  • The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences.
  • Each conference is given one rater for every four schools in the league.
  • The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 25 points for each first-place vote, 24 for second-place and so on through the list.
  • The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low rating) is removed and the team’s ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the teams appear on.
  • Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered “receiving votes.”
