Joya Breaks Texas Wesleyan School Record, Earning NAIA Special Teams Honor With 4 FG, 7 PATs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Texas Wesleyan sophomore kicker Freddy Joya booted four field goals and seven successful point-after attempts, breaking a TWU school record for 19 points by a kicker in the Rams' 61-28 win over Louisiana Christian.

Monday (Oct. 13) he was named NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week.

Joya was perfect on field goals, 4-for-4, with a long of 34, supporting seven Texas Wesleyan touchdowns with successful point-after attempts. Joya also hit field goals of 21, 22, and 27, and three of his four field goals were in the second half, including all of the Rams' scoring in the third quarter.

The win helped Texas Wesleyan gain ground to No. 19 in the Netting Professionals NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll, and the Rams will put a 4-2 record on the line on the road, Saturday, at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, in Belton, Texas.
