KANSAS CITY, Mo. - CJ Dixon threw for 536 yards and seven touchdowns, completing 30-of-54 in a 64-43 Peru State (Neb.) win over Central Methodist (Mo.) on the road, earning NAIA Offensive Player of the Week accolades for Sept. 22.
A sophomore from Loganville, Ga., Dixon added 101 rushing yards on 10 carries, helping Peru State get to 3-1 on the year, the Bobcats' third-consecutive win, in a game that needed all the offense the Bobcats could muster.
Dixon threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter, including a 60-yard strike to Amahd Bacon that capped a three-play, 74-yard drive and gave Peru State a 26-23 lead. He also had a 42-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, and in the third, Dixon hit Chaz Sturn for 41 yards and Bryan Thomas for 42 yards on back-to-back drives that regained a 43-36 lead.
In the fourth quarter, he split a 43-all tie with an 18-yard toss to Robert Armes, and with 10:05 left, he put the game out of reach, throwing to Daylan Jones for 10 yards to make it 64-43.
Dixon and the Bobcats get a top-10 test next, traveling to No. 3 Benedictine (Kan.), Saturday at 1 p.m. CT in a game that is part of the NAIA-UEN Featured Series on Urban Edge Network.
