Orr Named NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week After Two Blocked Kicks for Ave Maria (Fla.)
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Rashad Orr became the third Ave Maria (Fla.) Gyrene in school history to block two kicks in one game, helping to preserve a comeback win over Florida Memorial, claiming NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week for Nov. 10.
Orr's first block came at a pivotal moment in the second quarter, stopping a PAT that kept a point off the board with the Gyrenes down early by 20.
Late in the third quarter, Orr blocked Sean Egloff's field-goal attempt, keeping the Lions' second-half lead at 10 points, 33-23. Ave Maria went on to outscore Florida Memorial 21-6 after Orr's second block, winning the game 44-39.
Ave Maria's season concludes Saturday on the road, at No. 15 Southeastern (Fla.).
NAIA Football Players of the Week are announced Monday afternoons at NAIA.org.
