Black Hills State Advances to the Second Round

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - #5 Black Hills State (S.D.) led from the opening jump and knocked off Holy Names (Calif.) 85-62 in the first round of the 2011 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship. The 2011 event is being held at the Keeter Gymnasium on the campus of College of the Ozarks (Mo.).

 

Shooting 62% in the second half, Black Hills State outscored Holy Names 44-28 in the final 20 and advanced to the second round for the second time in three years. The Yellow Jackets led by seven (41-34) at the break. Luke Enos led all scorers with 24 points, going 10-for-17 from the floor. The 6'7" senior also pulled down 10 boards to record the first double-double of the championship.

 

Clay Pottorff added 17 points, including 15 from beyond the arc, making 5-of-7 three-pointers. Will John Johnson and Tanner Adler were also both in double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Black Hills State held a 41-34 advantage on the boards, led by Enos and Craig Von Allman (8).

 

Holy Names struggled from the field, shooting 37% for the game and was held to just 14% from beyond the arc (4/28). David Scott led the Hawks with 17 points and nine rebounds while Eric Webster came off the bench to score 13. Holy Names, the California Pacific Conference champions, ends the season with a 20-14 overall record.

Black Hills State advances to the second round to play #12 Davenport (Mich.) on Friday, March 11 at 8:30am. The 32-team, single elimination tournament concludes March 15, 2011.
