MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. –The Division II men’s basketball leading scorer, Antonio Jones, became St. Thomas’ (Fla.) all-time leading scorer Saturday (Feb. 13) against No. 6 Embry-Riddle (Fla.). He passed Arthur Collins (1972-1976) with 2,034 points for his career.  Jones led all scorers with 32 points for the game, including clutch free-throws down the stretch to send the contest into OT. Fouls killed the Bobcats late and forced coach Clark Maloney to search deep into his bench.

Jones hit a three-pointer with 11 seconds left to tie the game, but the Eagles called a timeout and hit a runner in the lane with one second remaining to clinch the win. The Bobcats fall to 10-14 (6-8 TSC) and will go to Johnson & Wales (Fla.) Wednesday for a 7 p.m. EST game.

Coach Maloney commented on Jones’ accomplishment. “Antonio has been very influential in reviving the men’s basketball program at St. Thomas. The 2,000 point mark was no easy feat but to become the all-time leading scorer in the same weekend is a testament to his hard work and determination. His character on and off the court have made him a worthy example for the university, and he will be a credit to whatever course he decides to take with his life.”
