KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Alex Sylvester of Marian (Ind.) has been named the NAIA National Division II Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Sylvester was selected based on his performances from Jan. 16 – 22 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

Sylvester, a 6-foot-2 senior guard, led the Knights to their fourth and fifth-straight victories over teams either ranked or receiving votes in the Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Sylvester recorded his second double-double of the season in a 66-57 win over No. 4 Grace (Ind.) on Jan. 17. He was an efficient 6-for-8 from the field. In the 68-63 victory over #RV Indiana Wesleyan on Jan. 21, the native of Indianapolis, Ind., netted 19 points and grabbed six rebounds for his fifth-consecutive game of 10-plus points. He scored 15 of his 19 points in the first half as the Knights were able to open a 10-point halftime lead.

On the week, he averaged 17.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.5 steals to push Marian’s record to 14-7 overall and 5-5 in the Mid-Central College Conference. Earlier this year, Sylvester surpassed the 1,000-point career mark to become the 32nd Knight to achieve that feat and the third in three seasons. In national statistics, he ranks 11th in 3-pointers made per game (3.0) and 12th in steals per game (2.3).

The next Player of the Week announcement will be on Jan. 31.
