Keiser Knocks Off Defending National Champion

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – (Box Score | Bracket) Kesier (Fla.) (30-4) knocked off defending national champion Cornerstone (Mich.) (27-7), 93-79.
The Seahawks jumped out to a 22-13 lead after Stanley Whittaker made a 2-point field goal.
Tyrus Weaver knocked down a shot from beyond the 3-point arc to push the Seahawks lead to a first-half high 18 points (34-16).
The Golden Eagles would get to within seven points at 35-42 after a Travis Wells jump shot.
That was as close as the Golden Eagles would get in the first half as the Seahawks led 53-39 at the intermission.
Cornerstone was able to trim the lead down to 11 with 15:58 remaining, but a 6-0 run by Keiser put the lead back to 17.
Keiser led by double digits the entire second half.
Stanley Whittaker led the Seahawks with 22 points. Tyrus Weaver added 20 points, Andrija Sarenac scored 19 points and Brice Jenkins recorded 13 points. Stefan Zecevic added a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Keiser shot 48 percent from the field (25-of-52) and 45 percent from the 3-point line (9-of-20) from downtown.
Cornerstone was led in scoring by Kyle Steigenga’s game-high 27 points. Cory Cox tallied
14 points and Travis Wells added 12 points.
The Golden Eagles shot 41 percent (26-of-63) from the field and 15 percent (4-of-26) from beyond the 3-point line.
Keiser advances to the quarterfinal round and will take on either No. 1-seed Saint Francis (Ind.) or No. 4-seed Mount Mercy (Iowa) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
