Kolbe Fielder's Three-Round Masterpiece in Iowa Good for NAIA Golfer of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kolbe Fielder broke a 64-year-old three-round scoring record at Texas Wesleyan last week, shooting 16-under par (197) over three days at the Northwestern Iowa National Invitational.
Wednesday (Sept. 24), the sophomore from North Richland Hills, Texas, was named NAIA Golfer of the Week.
Fielder began the tournament in Iowa with a 3-under par 68, a six-birdie round, and in the second round, he kept his foot on the accelerator with a 6-under 65, this time adding an eagle to five birdies and only one bogey.
In the Texas Wesleyan record book, Fielder's 36-hole 133 was second all-time. In the final round, Fielder claimed his place in Texas Wesleyan golf history with another eagle and six more birdies to shoot 64, 7-under par, for a three-day total of 197 (-16), breaking Ricky Kuenstler's record set back in 1961.
The Rams are back in action Oct. 6-7, at the University of the Southwest, in New Mexico.
NAIA Men’s Golfers of the Week are named weekly, on Wednesdays at NAIA.org, through Oct. 22. The award breaks for the winter and returns March 4, weekly, through April 22.
