2021 NAIA Men's Lacrosse Championship - Quarterfinals
SAVANNAH, Ga. – [Schedule/Results] [Bracket] Three of the top seed advanced in the quarterfinals of the 2021 NAIA Men's Lacrosse National Invitational Thursday at Memorial Stadium. In the lone upset of the day, No. 6 Cumberlands (Ky.) knocked off No. 3 Columbia (Mo.) 18-12. The top seed advanced in each of the other games as No. 1 Reinhardt tallied a 17-8 win over No. 8 Lourdes, while No. 4 Keiser posted a 12-7 win over No. 5 Saint Ambrose (Iowa) to set up Reinhardt vs. Keiser in the first semifinals. No. 2 Indiana Tech held off No. 7 Benedictine 11-8 in the nightcap, which sets up Indiana Tech vs. Cumberlands in the other semifinals.
Game Notes/Highlights
No. 1 Reinhardt (Ga.) def. No. 8 Lourdes (Ohio) 17-8
- Reinhardt came out strong as Gavin Banks connected on two of the Eagles first four goals to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead with 8:59 remaining in the first quarter.
- Lourdes rallied as Tyler Pezzot notched back-to-back goals, while Chad Causley added a third goal cutting the deficit to 4-3.
- The Eagles added a goal before the end of the quart, which sparked a six-goal run, spanning until the 7:12 mark in the second quarter, extending Reinhardt's lead to 10-3, which eventually turned into a 10-4 halftime advantage.
- Gavin Banks opened the third quarter with one of his game-high six goals before Lourdes netted a pair of goals making it 11-6 with 7:01 remaining. The Eagles scored six of the final eight goals in the game for the 17-8 final.
- Banks led the Eagles with six goals and two assists, while Kyle Banks netted four goals in the game. Matt Webb made 14 saves in the win, while JR Sess went 14-27 on faceoffs with five ground balls.
- For Lourdes, Cory Campbell led the way with four points; three goals and an assist. Nate Allen notched three caused turnovers and scooped six ground balls, while Tyler Queen notched eight saves.
No. 4 Keiser (Fla.) def. No. 5 Saint Ambrose (Iowa) 12-7
- Anthony Senior opened the game with an unassisted goal to give Keiser an early 1-0 lead.
- Saint Ambrose notched three unanswered goals, capped off with a goal from Isaiah Hahn, to close out the first quarter with a 3-1 lead.
- The two teams traded goals to opened the second quarter as Keiser cut it to a 4-3 game on a Senior goal with 4:05 remaining. Playing two-man down, Cole Stassi found Sam Kerr for a Saint Ambrose goal with 11 seconds left to make it 5-3 at halftime.
- Once again the two teams traded goals in the opening five minutes of the third quarter. An Dylan Sharpe unassisted goal sparked a 5-0 for the Seahawks and give Keiser a 9-6 advantage after three quarters.
- Keiser carried that momentum into the fourth quarter and outscored the Bees 3-1 for the 12-7 final.
- John Senior, Hunter East, and Dylan Sharpe all netted hat tricks for Keiser, while Cole Stassi dished out four assists. Cam Provines went 10-22 with nine ground balls in the game as Cole George made 12 saves in the cage.
- Saint Ambrose was led by Michael Shakerin, who tallied a pair of goals to go along with an assist. Hayden Latham tallied three caused turnovers and five ground balls, while Nolan Hayes recorded 11 saves in the game.
No. 6 Cumberlands (Ky.) def. No. 3 Columbia (Mo.) 18-12
- Cooper Heck netter back-to-back goals to give Columbia a 2-0 lead five minutes into the first half.
- The Patriots responded netted four of the next five goals to take a 4-3 lead, however, the Cougars added a goal in the final minute to even the score at 4-4 after the opening quarter.
- Dylan Crouch recorded a goal and an assist as Cumberlands took a 6-5 lead midway through the second quarter.
- Columbia scored twice to retake the lead, however, the Patriots responded with three straight goals, including a pair from Fogarty to take a 9-7 lead.
- Heck netted his third goal of the game with 14 seconds remaining in the half as the Cougars cut the score to 9-8 at the beak.
- The two teams traded goals twice in the third quarter as the Patriots took an 11-10 lead into the final period.
- Columbia evened the score at the 11:15 mark before Cumberlands closed out the game netted seven of the final eight goals for the 18-12 final.
- Fogarty led the Patriots with seven goals and an assist, while Crouch added four goals and three assists. Jayvon Jamison went 17-26 on faceoffs and scooped 10 groundballs, while Michael Toohey finished with 12 saves in the cage.
For Columbia, Heck was the leading scorer with five goals as Tyler Parrott and John Thomas added three points each. Austen King scooped nine ground balls in the game, while Peter Jones tallied three caused turnovers.
No. 2 Indiana Tech def. No. 7 Benedictine (Kan.) 11-8
- Benedictine struck first as Sean Molyneux connected with Jack Kandoth for a goal one minute into the game.
- The two teams traded goals before Indiana Tech's Nate Langille found Andrew Ryan for the equalizer with 5:13 remaining to even the score at 2-2.
- Brady Guck opened the second quarter with consecutive goals to give the Ravens a 4-2 advantage. Indiana Tech responded with four unanswered goals giving the Warriors their first lead of the day at 6-4.
- The two teams traded goals in the final minute of the half sending the teams to the break with Indiana Tech leading 7-5.
- Indiana Tech opened the third quarter netting four of the first five goals to extend the Warriors lead to 11-6 with 9:51 remaining.
- Benedictine netted the final two goals of the game for the 11-8 final.
- Andrew Ryan led the way for Indiana Tech with six goals, while Langille finished with three points. Evan Schuster made 15 saves in the cage as Sam Anderson tallied three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Benedictine was led by Guck, who netted a hat trick. James Carson added a pair of goals to go along with a pair of assists. Duncan Loud made a game-high 18 saves for the Ravens as Keaton Carney notched four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
