OLATHE, Kan. - Former MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) midfielder Lucas Rodriguez was signed by the NSC Minnesota Stars in the USSL Division II Pro League this week.
The Buenos Aires, Argentina, native moved to the United States when he was 11 years old. He graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, and after attending Johnson County Community College for two years, he moved on to finish his education and soccer eligibility at MidAmerica Nazarene.
"I am extremely happy for Lucas," said MNU men's head soccer coach Kevin Wardlaw. "He has always had the dream to play professionally and now he has been given that chance. He grew a lot as a player and a person while at MNU and it is very rewarding to see one of our own move on and have this level of success.
In Rodriguez's senior year the team won the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Championship and finished the season ranked No. 16. He was named the HAAC's Most Valuable Player, HAAC First Team and garnered Third-Team All-America honors.
"Hard work, persistence, confidence and sacrifice were important things that helped with my progression to eventually becoming a professional soccer player," said Rodriguez. "With the support of my family and experienced coaches I have had, I was able to reach my goal."
Rodriguez graduated from MNU in 2009 with a degree in Sports Management.
