Players of the Week - No. 8

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The eighth installment of the 2011 NAIA National Men’s Soccer Players of the Week were announced on Tuesday by the national office: Bill Jeffries of Lyon (Ark.) was named NAIA Offensive Player of the Week and Josh Putz of Mount Mercy (Iowa) was named NAIA Defensive Player of the Week. They were selected based on their performances from Oct. 17 – 23 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

Jeffries, a 5-foot-10 senior forward set two single-game school records in the win against NCCAA member Crowley’s Ridge (Ark.) on Oct. 22. The native of Kalundborg, Denmark, notched a program-record seven goals and two assists for a school-best 16 points. The goals and points output are both NAIA single-game highs this season.

Putz, a 6-foot-3 senior goalkeeper recorded 12 saves in 184 minutes with two wins over Clarke (Iowa) and No. 6 Grand View (Iowa). He started the week with four saves in the 3-0 victory over Clarke. In the 2-1 win against Grand View, he made eight saves and helped hand the Vikings their second loss of the season. The native of Swisher, Iowa, ranks 45th in goals against average (1.13).
