Eric Zalaya Stood tall in Goal with Double-Digit Saves Earning Him Defensive Player of the Week Honors
KANSAS CITY, MO.- Eric Zalaya, a senior goalkeeper from Spain, was busy over the weekend for the Cumberland (Tenn.) Phoenix. In a game that was heavily controlled by the opponents, Zalaya stood tall, holding a blank sheet to earn defensive player of the week honors.
The Phoenix only played one game last week, but with the workload Zalaya put in, it worked in their favor. Standing between the posts for a full 90 minutes, he was called upon ten different times. He was able to keep the Wildcats of Bethel (Tenn.) out of the goal as he led his team to a 0-0 draw.
