Late Goal, Penalty Kick Thriller Propels Warner Pacific (Ore.) Past LSU-Shreveport (La.)

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Warner Pacific (Ore.) survived a hard-fought battle with LSU-Shreveport (La.) Monday night, advancing to the next round of the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Tournament with a 4-3 penalty kick triumph after a 1–1 draw through double overtime.

LSU-Shreveport struck first in the 17th minute when Jack Thomas finished unassisted to give the Pilots an early 1-0 lead. Warner Pacific responded with steady pressure, eventually equalizing in the 84th minute on a calm, unassisted strike from Bodo Calderon.

The match featured balanced shot totals, with the Knights registering seven shots, four of which were on goal, while the Pilots totaled ten shots, five of which were on target. Goalkeepers played a key role in keeping the game tied. Warner Pacific’s Owen Purvis made four saves, including two crucial stops in the shootout, while LSU-Shreveport’s Sondre Liahagen-Kolnes turned aside multiple attempts during regulation and overtime.

During penalty kicks, Warner Pacific converted four of five attempts to LSU-Shreveport’s three, clinching the narrow win and advancing to the quarterfinals. The Pilots concluded a strong 2025 season at 14-3-5, falling just short in a match that came down to the final shot. The Knights improved to 16-4-3 on the year.

Warner Pacific will be back on the pitch in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m., and face 12-seed Cumberlands (Ky.).
