KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Bobby Yribarren of Fresno Pacific (Calif.) has been named the first NAIA National Men's Swimmer of the Month for the 2011 – 2012 season, the national office announced Wednesday. Yribarren was selected based on his performances in the month of January and was chosen out of a pool of candidates nominated by NAIA men’s swimming & diving programs.

The 2011 NAIA All-American won all five of his events in the past month at two separate meets. Up against swimmers from former NAIA member and 2011 national runner-up California Baptist on Jan. 14, the Fresno, Calif., native won both of his events, posting a time of 9:34.01 in the 1,000-yard freestyle and a time of 4:41.70 in the 500-yard freestyle.

In a meet with both NCAA Division I Pacific (Calif.) and NCAA Division III UC Santa Cruz on Jan. 21, the standout senior took first place in a trio of events: the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:40.98), the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.96) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.89). Yribarren’s performances have helped the Sunbirds finish unbeaten in dual meets this season for the first time in school history and allowed Fresno Pacific to vault back to No. 1 in the Coaches’ Poll.

The next Swimmer of the Month award will be announced on Feb. 22.

Nominees: Travis Strachan, Union (Ky.); Mateo Maciuniak, Oklahoma Baptist; Matt Nellor, Concordia (Calif.); Jeremy Erbsen, College of Idaho.
