KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jochem Hoefnagels of Azusa Pacific (Calif.) has been named NAIA Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Hoefnagels was selected based on his performances from March 26 – April 1 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group player of the week selections. The honor is the second such award for Hoefnagels, who was also named Player of the Week on March 16, 2011.

The junior from Asten, Netherlands, improved to 17-0 in singles play this season after posting a pair of wins in No. 2 singles on the week. Hoefnagels, the 15th-rated singles player in the NAIA according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win over Junya Yoshida of NCAA Division II No. 16 UC San Diego on March 28 prior to a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Roger Muri (43rd-ranked by the ITA) of then-No. 6 Vanguard (Calif.) on March 30.

Hoefnagels also teamed with Janosch Apelt in boosting his doubles record to 15-2 on the season. The duo, rated sixth by the ITA, took down Austin West and Devon Sousa of UC San Diego, 8-2, and then capped the week with an 8-4 victory over Vanguard’s Muri and Lucas Pereira. Behind Hoefnagels, the Cougars have won 13-straight matches, are 16-1 overall and ranked No. 4 in the NAIA.

The next men’s tennis Player of the Week will be announced on April 11.
