Raul Safont Claims NAIA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Honors After Perfect 4-0 Weekend
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Raul Safont of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) has been named NAIA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week following a flawless performance in a pair of ranked victories for the Blue Raiders.
Safont turned in a perfect 4-0 record across singles and doubles competition, helping No. 5 Lindsey Wilson secure wins over No. 15 Marian (Ind.) and No. 24 Cumberland (Tenn.).
Competing at No. 4 singles, Safont delivered decisive straight-set victories in both matches, defeating Marian’s Marcos Ramos Cabrera 6-2, 6-2 before following with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Cumberland’s Mohamed Bouhlel.
In doubles play, Safont teamed with Aldo Randazzo to go 2-0 at the No. 3 position. The duo opened with a 6-3 victory over Marian’s Marc Soriano and Iyan Cresens, then matched that result with another 6-3 win against Cumberland’s Arne Sohmer and Arthur Fernandes.
Safont did not drop a set throughout the weekend and improved to 8-1 overall in singles play, including a perfect 4-0 mark in Mid-South Conference action.
The Blue Raiders return to the courts on April 2 against Xavier (La.).
