Tavon Davis Lands Third Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week Honor with New School Records
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Tavon Davis of Cumberlands (Ky.) has been named the NAIA Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after delivering another record-breaking performance at the University of Louisville’s Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Open on April 26.
A junior from Utica, Mississippi, Davis produced a pair of NAIA-leading marks while winning both the 400 meters and the 4x400-meter relay. In the 400, he surged to a first-place finish in a loaded 62-man field, clocking 45.67. The time not only met the NAIA “A” standard, but it also set a new school record and stood as the NAIA’s top performance this season. Davis’ dominance was clear in the final results, as he finished nearly a full second ahead of the runner-up.
Davis capped the meet by anchoring Cumberlands’ 4x400 relay to another victory, helping the Patriots post a 3:07.69 in a 16-team field. That performance also hit the NAIA “A” standard, established another school record, and ranked No. 1 in the NAIA.
With two wins, two “A” standards, and two school records—each achieved on a major stage—Davis continues to set the national pace in the sprints.
