Pirates Open Pool Play with Three Set Win
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa [BOX SCORE | SCHEDULE] No. 8 seed Park (Mo.) Pirates emerged victorious against No. 9 seed Mount Mercy (Iowa) Mustangs in the NAIA Men's Volleyball National Championship pool play. Park clinched the match in straight sets, with scores of 25-23, 26-24, and 25-23.
Guglielmo Illotti led the Mustangs with 25 kills, while Pere Font Torres followed with 11 kills of his own. Torres also recorded an impressive attack percentage of .625 on 11 kills, 16 attempts and only one error.
Adrian Figueroa was a standout performer for the Pirates, contributing 24 kills with an impressive .476 hitting percentage. Nicolas Tenius followed with nine kills of his own.
Throughout the match, Park demonstrated superior blocking, notching 20 block assists compared to Mount Mercy's 12 block assists.
Park will play Friday against The Master's (Calif.) for a chance to advance to the semifinals. With the loss, Mount Mercy is eliminated from tournament play.
