Freshman Colt Schmidt Records 4.77 Digs Per Set for Defensive Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Dordt (Iowa) freshman libero Colt Schmidt of Palmdale, California, has been named the NAIA Men’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after helping his team to an undefeated 4–0 weekend in which they went 12–1 in sets. 

Across four matches, Schmidt averaged 4.77 digs per set, totaling 62 digs in 13 sets as Dordt swept Viterbo (Wis.) and Jamestown, then took a four-set win over Hastings (Neb.) and finished with a straight-set victory against Arizona Christian.

His best single-match total came against Hastings, when he posted 22 digs in four sets for 5.50 digs per set. He followed that with 15 digs versus Viterbo, 13 against Jamestown, and 12 against Arizona Christian, repeatedly keeping plays alive and giving Dordt’s offense extra chances to score.

He also added seven assists and three service aces.
