Wineberg Earns Defender of the Week with 12 Total Blocks Last Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) senior Noah Wineberg has been named the NAIA Men’s Volleyball Defender of the Week after a strong two-match stretch at the net for the Cougars.
Across the week’s two contests, Wineberg totaled 12 blocks and averaged 1.71 blocks per set, anchoring the Cougars’ defensive presence at the net.
His impact on January 29 against Wittenberg, when Mount Vernon Nazarene fell 3–1, saw him record six assisted blocks while adding six kills on 17 attempts, finishing with nine points and a 1.50 blocks-per-set rate in the match.
Wineberg followed that effort with an even more efficient performance on January 31 in a 3–0 win over Aquinas (Mich.). He posted six total blocks (3 solo, 3 assisted) and averaged two blocks per set, helping the Cougars control the match from start to finish. Offensively, he complemented the defensive work with seven kills on 10 swings, hitting .600 and finishing with 11.5 points.
For the week overall, Wineberg combined for 13 kills on 27 attempts for a .370 hitting percentage, 20.5 total points with 12 total blocks in two matches.
