Bauer Earns Second Setter of the Week Award this Season
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Mount Mercy (Iowa) sophomore Gustavo Kehl Bauer has been named Men’s Volleyball Setter of the Week after directing an efficient, high-tempo offense in a pair of straight-set road wins. The setter from Nova Petrópolis, Brazil, delivered elite production across six sets, averaging 13.5 assists per set while helping Mount Mercy sweep both Morningside (Iowa) and Dordt (Iowa).
Bauer’s week was highlighted by his performance on March 27 at Morningside, when he piled up 47 assists in a 3–0 victory. That total came in just three sets, giving him a remarkable 15.67 assists per set for the match and reflecting how consistently Mount Mercy’s attack stayed in system and in rhythm. He complemented his distribution with seven digs and added a kill on two attempts, finishing with a .500 hitting percentage.
He followed that effort the next day with another commanding outing in a 3–0 win at Dordt (Iowa), recording 34 assists, good for 11.33 per set. Bauer contributed in multiple phases again, posting five digs and making his presence felt at the net with two total blocks, while also adding two kills.
Across the two matches, Bauer totaled 81 assists, 12 digs, three kills, and two blocks, while helping Mount Mercy secure back-to-back sweeps.
