WICHITA, Kan. - The Baker University (Kan.) wrestling team traveled to Kansas Newman University in Wichita on Sunday to compete in the first ever Kansas Cup Invitational. The tournament was comprised of all Kansas colleges and universities that currently sponsor a varsity wrestling program.

Each team was allowed to bring its top-10 varsity starters. In attendance were NCAA Division II teams, Fort Hays State University and host Kansas Newman University. The four Kansas junior colleges were Neosho County Community College, Pratt Community College and Labette Community College. Colby Community College did not compete due to injuries.

The Wildcats ended up with 10 place winners, led by two finalists in freshman 184-pounder Jacob Nowak (Overland Park, Kan.) and senior heavyweight Levi Calhoun (Oklahoma City, Okla.) finishing as the runners-up in their respective weight classes.

The Wildcats finished in third place in the final team score behind Labette Community College, who finished second, and team champion Fort Hays State.

The Wildcats will travel to York College (Neb.) for their final dual on Friday. Baker will be vying to complete its first season on the mat with a perfect 5-0 dual record.

After the dual against York on Friday, the Baker grapplers will travel to Sioux City, Iowa, for the Briar Cliff Open on Saturday before heading into qualifiying group tournament action on Feb. 20.
