Back-to-Back Falls Highlight Morningside's 40-3 Rout of Hastings

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Morningside's (Iowa) wrestling team steamrolled past Great Plains Athletic Conference rival Hastings College (Neb.) 40-3 in Friday's dual in the Hindman-Hobbs Center.

The Mustangs (7-1-1) swept the first six weight divisions before the Broncos avoided a shutout when sixth-ranked 174-pounder Jameon Rush notched a 6-2 decision over Morningside freshman Chad Morehead. Rush improved to 30-8.

Morningside won three matches by fall, including back-to-back pins from Jared Wildeboer and No. 12 Joe Sievert at 157 and 165 pounds, respectively. Wildeboer disposed of Justin Narduzzo in 3:13 and Sievert pinned Jairin Potter in 4:38 to improve to 13-3 on the season. Each of Sievert's last five victories have been by fall as he raised his season's pin count to seven.

Fourth-ranked 141-pounder Drew Smith had the Mustangs' fastest fall of the night when he pinned Justin Ferguson in 2:13 to improve his record to 23-6.

Morningside freshman Brian Block, ranked 12th at 184 pounds, kept pace with Smith for the team lead in victories with a 17-3 major decision against Drew Sorensen to improve to 23-5.

The Mustangs' won decisions from Cody Dennis (125), Justin Truckenmiller (149), Joe Lockett (197) and Alex Will (HWT). Matthew Maresh received a forfeit at 133 pounds.

Morningside will compete in Saturday's Briar Cliff University (Iowa) Open.
