2012-13 NAIA Wrestling Coaches? Preseason Top 20 Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the second-straight season, Southern Oregon tops the NAIA Wrestling Coaches' Preseason Top 20 Poll, the national office announced Wednesday. The Raiders had 12 individuals earn recognition, including three top ranked wrestlers, to total 139 points. Southern Oregon's No. 1 ranked individuals are Mitchell Lofstedt at 125 pounds, Jimmy Eggemeyer at 149 pounds and Brock Gutches at 174 pounds.

Campbellsville (Ky.), led by No. 1 ranked Chris Teague at 141 pounds, boasts the No. 2 ranking with 94.5 points. Including Teague, the Tigers have four individuals ranked amongst the top four in their respective weight class. With 10 wrestlers listed, defending national champion Grand View (Iowa) checks in at No. 3 with 93 points. The Vikings are led by returning All-Americans and top ranked Eric Thompson at 285 pounds and Chad Lowman at 157 pounds.

Rounding out the top five are Baker (Kan.) at No. 4 with 71.5 points and fifth-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) with 68 points.

No. 20 Wayland Baptist (Texas), who began its wrestling program in 2010-11, makes its first-ever appearance in the Top 20 Poll. The Pioneers are led by Jose Alvarez's No. 2 ranking at 174 pounds. Alvarez finished fifth at the 2012 NAIA Wrestling National Championships.

With seven returning All-Americans, the 125-pound weight class is the most decorated of the ten levels. Lofstedt, the defending national champion, highlights the group followed by national runner-up Kory Kistner of Morningside (Iowa) at No. 2. The other five All-America award winners include: No. 3 Bryden Lazaro of Dickinson State (N.D.), No. 4 Deteoreious Prayther of Missouri Baptist, No. 5 Danny Luttrell of Great Falls (Mont.), No. 4 Gabriel Roman of Missouri Baptist and No. 7 Sean Silva of Embry-Riddle (Ariz.).

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the Qualifying Groups.
