SAVANNAH, Ga. - Heidi Standridge, Atlanta resident and a 2002 graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.), makes her television debut Wednesday (Dec. 7), at 10 p.m. as one of the fashion designers competing in the new season of Bravo's "Project Runway." The reality show series, hosted by supermodel Heidi Klum, will feature 16 designers competing in weekly challenges, with one designer facing elimination at the end of the episode. The three finalists to escape weekly elimination will face off at New York Fashion Week in February.
Standridge's flair for fashion began at a young age, as she remembers designing and drawing clothes as a child. As a student at SCAD, she studied under fashion professor Carol Harris, whom she credits with teaching her about sewing, draping, pattern-drafting, illustrating and visual merchandising. Standridge has worked at Carter's in Atlanta since her graduation from SCAD.
Standridge, who played softball for the Bees for two seasons (2001-02), hopes to one day design her own women's wear fashion line. "I believe in creating garments that make women feel even more beautiful in their own skin," Standridge said. "I feel a women should look classy and sophisticated, yet have that allure about her that makes you wonder what she is really all about."
The winning designer of "Project Runway" will walk away with $100,000 in seed money to help them launch their own line, a 2007 Saturn SkyRoadster, and a mentorship from the Banana Republic Design Team. The winner's designs will be featured in a spread in ELLE magazine. Click here for more information about "Project Runway" and Heidi Standridge.
