The Vikings Handle Business in Game One of the 2025 World Series

COLUMBUS, Ga. - [Bracket | Schedule | Watch] In game one of the 2025 NAIA Softball World Series, Grand View (Iowa) emerged victorious against Midland (Neb.) with an impressive 8-3 win at the South Commons Complex. This victory improved the Vikings' record to 41-14, while the Warriors slid to 40-17.

Grand View's offensive prowess was evident early on, as they took control of the game in the first two innings. The team capitalized on Midland's defensive miscues, scoring five runs by the end of the second inning. A key play in the first inning saw Samantha Holbert driving in Olivia Kyes with a single down the right-field line. The second inning was highlighted by a sequence of hits and errors, allowing Grand View to extend its lead to 5-0, with contributions from Kylie Merical and Mackenzie Meister.

The Warriors attempted a comeback, scoring their first run in the third inning with Isabelle Pagan's RBI single. However, Grand View's Nevaeh Randall delivered a crucial two-RBI single in the fourth inning, further solidifying their lead at 7-1, despite Midland's efforts, including runs driven in by Kamdyn Barriento and a crafty steal by Sophie De Rouin, Grand View's defense held firm, with no errors throughout the game.

Grand View's pitcher, Madison Huisman, delivered a solid performance, pitching six innings and allowing only three earned runs on nine hits, earning the win with a record of 16-9. Addison Halstead provided a seamless close to the game, allowing only one hit in the final inning.

Campbell Petrick, the starting pitcher for Midland, faced challenges early, allowing five runs in the first two innings. Paeton Coler pitched four innings in relief, conceding three additional runs.

Grand View's offensive lineup was led by Olivia Harmon and Olivia Kyes, who combined for five runs and three RBIs. Samantha Holbert also made significant contributions with two RBIs and a crucial double in the sixth inning to secure the win.

The Vikings will face top-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.) tomorrow in the winners bracket at 4 p.m., while the Warriors will play the loser of game four at 1 p.m. tomorrow in an elimination game.
