Small Ball Fuels the Grizzlies Elimination Game Win over The Eagles
COLUMBUS, Ga. - [Bracket | Schedule | Watch] Small ball propels Georgia Gwinnett over Central Methodist (Mo.) with a 5-1 victory to keep the Grizzlies' season alive in the 2025 NAIA Softball World Series.
GGC, boasting a strong season record of 47-9, opened the scoring in the first inning. Sophie Sisk's sacrifice fly allowed Morgan McQuagge to score, setting the tone for the game. CMU, with a 42-11 record, managed to level the score in the third inning when Kaysie Jolley tripled, bringing Madison Roberts home.
However, the Grizzlies quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the third, thanks to a throwing error by Central Methodist's catcher, which allowed Casey Beaver to score. The fifth inning proved decisive for Georgia Gwinnett, as they capitalized on multiple errors by Central Methodist to extend their lead. McQuagge reached base on a fielding error, allowing Beaver to score. Sisk then singled up the middle, bringing McQuagge home, and Makenna Talcott's bunt single, combined with another throwing error, allowed Sisk to score, cementing the 5-1 victory.
GGC's Annalise Woods (Jarvis) delivered an impressive performance on the mound, pitching a complete game. Jarvis allowed just one earned run on seven hits, striking out six and walking two over seven innings. The strong pitching limited the Eagles' offensive opportunities and demonstrated Jarvis's control in the circle.
CMU's pitchers, Haley Cotter and Veronica Dearth, faced challenges against Georgia Gwinnett's lineup. Cotter pitched four innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits, while Dearth provided two innings of relief, allowing just one hit. Central Methodist's defense struggled throughout the game, committing six errors
Georgia Gwinnett moves on in the losers' bracket and will take on the loser of game 11 on Monday, May 26 at 4 p.m. ET.
