Mountaineers Continue to Climb in NAIA Softball World Series
COLUMBUS, Ga. - [Bracket | Schedule | Watch] Eastern Oregon handled business in the top half of the bracket against Marian (Ind.) with an 8-0 victory after five innings of play. This commanding performance was underscored by a combination of effective pitching, consistent hitting, and strategic baserunning.
EOU, coming into the game with a 38-9 record, showcased their prowess early in the second inning. The offensive surge was led by Raygun Klippert, who delivered a crucial three-run triple to left field, bringing home Brylin Fields, Kelly Monaghan, and Madison Olson. Shortly after, Haley Tyree doubled to left center, allowing Klippert to score, extending their lead to 4-0.
The fifth inning saw the Mountaineers extend their lead when Hannah Tyree doubled down the left field line, driving in Madelyn Durham. A sacrifice fly by Olivia Brown pushed Alexis Blankensh across the plate. The highlight of the inning, and arguably the game, was Monaghan's two-run homer to left field, sealing the 8-0 victory.
Pitcher Kylie Parsons was instrumental in maintaining Eastern Oregon’s shutout. Parsons delivered a stellar performance, allowing only two hits and striking out six over five innings, improving her record to an impressive 23-0. Her efficiency on the mound was evident, facing just 17 batters with 58 pitches, 40 of which were strikes.
The Knights, with a strong season record of 48-8, struggled to find their rhythm against EOU's relentless play. Despite the efforts of Jenna Minnix and Brooke Knox, who each managed a hit, Marian couldn't convert opportunities into runs. Marian's starting pitcher, Olivia Stunkel, faced challenges throughout her 4.1 innings, conceding seven runs on eight hits.
Eastern Oregon will face Oklahoma City in the winner's bracket on Monday, May 26 at 7 p.m. ET. Marian (Ind.) will take on Southern Oregon in an elimination game on the 26th at 1 p.m. ET.
