Southern Oregon Survives the Extra Inning Rematch in Walk Off Fashion

COLUMBUS, Ga. - [Bracket | Schedule | Watch] The second meeting between Southern Oregon and Marian (Ind.) at the 2025 NAIA Softball World Series was just like the first, as extra innings were needed to decide a winner. The 7-6 victory marked SOU's 51st win of the season, improving their record to 51-9, while MU's season came to a close with a 48-9 record.

The game started with Southern Oregon taking an early lead in the second inning, thanks to an RBI double from Brooke Nordahl and a single from Sarah Kerling, which brought the score to 2-0. Southern Oregon extended its lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning with contributions from Ariana Williams and a sacrifice fly by Kierstin Grotewiel.

The Raiders' key hitting continued into the sixth inning when Kerling singled up the middle, driving in another run. However, the Knights made a stunning comeback in the seventh inning, scoring six runs. Mystic Means initiated the rally with an RBI walk, followed by a two-RBI double from Brooke Knox. Abigail Hofmann then singled to right center, bringing in two more runs, and a fielding error allowed MU to take a 6-5 lead.

Southern Oregon quickly responded in the bottom of the seventh with Faith Moultrie’s RBI single, leveling the score at 6-6. The game reached its peak in the ninth inning when Kerling, who had an outstanding performance with four hits and three RBIs, singled to center field, driving in the winning run for Southern Oregon.

Southern Oregon's pitcher, Ayla Davies, secured the win with a complete game, allowing seven hits and four earned runs while striking out seven batters. Marian's Olivia Stunkel, despite a valiant effort with 161 pitches, took the loss after conceding seven runs on 15 hits.

The Raiders continue their run for another Red Banner as they continue to battle through the elimination bracket. SOU will take on the winner of game 14 between Grand View (Iowa) and Georgia Gwinnett in the elimination bracket semifinal tomorrow at 4 p.m. ET.
