COLUMBUS, Ga. - [Bracket | Schedule | Watch] Southern Oregon emerged victorious against Reinhardt (Ga.) thanks to pinch hitter Ariana Williams with a score of 3-1. The Raiders improved their record to 49-9, while the Eagles conclude their season with a 32-12 record.
The game started with Southern Oregon taking an early lead in the first inning. Kierstin Grotewiel's single up the middle allowed Kailer Fulton to score, putting SOU on the scoreboard with a 1-0 lead. The second inning saw another run for the Raiders, as a fielding error by the Eagles' first baseman allowed Samantha Pemberton to score, making it 2-0.
Reinhardt's only run came in the fifth inning when Kyra Lightner hit a solo home run to left-center, reducing the deficit to 2-1. However, Southern Oregon responded in the sixth inning with Williams being called upon to pinch hit, then hitting a solo home run to left field, extending their lead to 3-1.
Southern Oregon's pitcher, Ayla Davies, delivered an outstanding performance, pitching a complete game with seven innings, allowing only one hit and one run while striking out eight. Reinhardt's pitchers, Macy Langley and Anslie Pettit, combined for six innings, conceding eight hits and three runs, with two earned.
The game was marked by solid defensive play from SOU, which committed no errors, compared to RU's one error. Southern Oregon remains in Columbus for at least one more day as they will take on the loser of game seven between Grand View (Iowa) and Cumberlands (Ky.) at 10 a.m. Saturday.
