Mountaineers Halt Grizzlies Attack Late to Remain In the Winners Bracket

COLUMBUS, Ga. - [Bracket | Schedule | Watch] Eastern Oregon emerged victorious against Georgia Gwinnett with a 4-2 win, halting the Grizzlies' attack late. The game, which lasted just under two hours, ended day two of the winners bracket of the 2025 NAIA Softball World Series without the top two seeds.

Georgia Gwinnett started strong, securing an early lead in the first inning. Savannah Jenkins grounded out to shortstop, allowing Sophie Sisk to advance to third and Morgan McQuagge to score, putting Georgia Gwinnett ahead 1-0. However, Eastern Oregon's defense held firm, preventing further runs in the subsequent innings.

The turning point came in the fourth inning when Eastern Oregon's Kelly Monaghan delivered a spectacular triple to center field, driving in three runs. Madison Olson, Katelynn Evans, and Madelyn Durham all crossed home plate, swinging the momentum in Eastern Oregon's favor with a 3-1 lead. This critical play was further bolstered in the fifth inning when Emily Barry doubled to left center, bringing Durham home and extending the lead to 4-1.

Georgia Gwinnett attempted a comeback in the sixth inning. Jenkins once again grounded out to shortstop, allowing Sisk to score an unearned run, reducing the deficit to 4-2. However, Eastern Oregon's pitcher, Kylie Parsons, showcased an impressive performance, maintaining composure and control throughout the game. Parsons pitched a complete game, allowing only five hits and one earned run while striking out seven batters, securing her 22nd win of the season without a loss.

Georgia Gwinnett's pitchers, Kailynn James and Annalise Woods (Jarvis), combined for seven strikeouts but struggled to contain Eastern Oregon's offense. James took the loss, ending with a 17-4 record for the season.

This victory adds to Eastern Oregon's impressive season record, now standing at 37-9, while Georgia Gwinnett holds a 46-7 record. Second-seeded Georgia Gwinnett will play tomorrow in an elimination game against Central Methodist (Mo.) at 1 p.m., while Eastern Oregon will face Marian (Ind.) in the nightcap tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
