Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) Survives In Columbus Taking Down College of Idaho
COLUMBUS, Ga. - [Watch On-Demand] Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back, defeating College of Idaho 6-0 after yet another long weather delay at South Commons Complex.
The Saints (45-12) wasted little time offensively, jumping on College of Idaho starter Kina Watts in the opening inning. After early traffic on the bases, Lilly Rocha delivered a two-run double to right field to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. Moments later, Novalee Gloria followed with an RBI single down the left-field line to extend the advantage to 3-0. Watts recorded just one out in the inning and took the loss, falling to 11-4 on the season.
Our Lady of the Lake continued to apply pressure throughout the game, adding runs in three consecutive middle innings. In the fourth, Caitlin Casas lined an RBI single to left field to score Arianna Alejandro and make it 4-0. The Saints added another run in the fifth when Alyssa Guzman singled home Gloria, with the run scoring unearned following a defensive error. Marisa Rosales capped the scoring in the sixth inning with an RBI double to left-center field that plated Rocha for the final 6-0 margin.
The Saints finished with 10 hits, led by Alejandro’s 3-for-3 performance that included two runs scored and a walk. Rocha added a strong night at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, and a walk.
In the circle, Annika Litterio earned the win after tossing five scoreless innings, allowing four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Valeria Vielma closed out the final two innings without allowing a hit while striking out three to complete the four-hit shutout.
College of Idaho (38-22) managed only four singles, including a two-hit effort from Chloe Flerchinger. Kamryn Ham and Hallie Campbell each added a hit, but the Coyotes were unable to generate a sustained rally and stranded eight runners on base.
After Watts’ early exit, Drew Williams provided stability in relief, allowing three runs — two earned — across 5 1/3 innings. However, the early deficit and the Saints' steady offensive production proved too much to overcome.
OLLU will be back in action later today at 7 p.m. ET against the loser of Madonna (Mich.) and Mobile (Ala.).
