Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) Survives 10-Inning Marathon Against Indiana Wesleyan in Elimination Semifinals
COLUMBUS, Ga. - [Watch On-Demand] Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) walked off Indiana Wesleyan with a 2-1 victory in 10 innings using timely situational hitting to end a tightly contested pitchers’ duel. Marking the third-longest game in NAIA Softball World Series history.
For four innings, neither team was able to break through offensively as both pitching staffs controlled the game early. Indiana Wesleyan (47-12) finally opened the scoring in the top of the fifth inning when Brylee Bilger ripped an RBI double to right field, bringing home Courtney Thomas for a 1-0 lead. Bilger’s double accounted for the Wildcats’ lone run, while Thomas contributed a double and two walks during a strong performance at the top of the lineup.
Our Lady of the Lake (43-15) answered in the bottom of the seventh inning without recording a hit on the scoring play. After moving a runner into position, Marisa Rosales lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Ayanna Trejo to tie the game at 1-1. The run was unearned following a defensive error charged to Indiana Wesleyan pitcher Avery Toole.
The game remained deadlocked through the ninth inning despite multiple scoring opportunities. Indiana Wesleyan stranded 15 runners on base and drew seven walks but could not produce another run.
In the bottom of the 10th, Our Lady of the Lake finally delivered the decisive hit. Arianna Alejandro came around to score when Lilly Rocha dropped a bunt single in front of the catcher for the walk-off RBI, securing the 2-1 victory.
Annika Litterio earned the win in relief after tossing four scoreless innings to keep the game tied deep into extra innings. Toole took the tough-luck loss for Indiana Wesleyan after battling through nine innings and allowing two runs — one earned.
Madisyn Tharpe paced the Wildcats offensively with a 3-for-4 performance, while Alejandro scored both runs for Our Lady of the Lake. Rosales and Rocha each recorded RBIs for the Saints.
In a game dominated by pitching, Our Lady of the Lake relied on execution in key moments, manufacturing the tying run in the seventh before ending the contest with Rocha’s perfectly placed bunt single in the 10th inning.
