Hogberg and Holmes Earn NAIA Women's Soccer Player of the Week Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Annika Hogberg of Northwood (Fla.) has been named NAIA National Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Northwest’s (Wash.) Jordan Holmes has been tabbed NAIA National Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Hogberg and Holmes were selected based on their performances from Oct. 11 - 17 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

Hogberg helped lead Northwood past The Sun Conference foes SCAD Savannah (Ga.) on Oct. 15 and No. 11 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) on Oct. 17. Her contributions against the Eagles secured the upset bid, scoring three goals and dishing out a pair of assists for the 6-3 victory. With the two wins, the Seahawks pushed their overall record to 13-3 and remain unbeaten in league play at 8-0.

The junior forward hailing from Storvreta, Sweden, is listed among the nation’s top-25 players in five statistical categories. Hogberg is sixth in total goals (17), seventh in total points (43.000), 12th in total assists (9), 17th in points per game (2.690) and 20th in shots on goal per game (2.750).

Holmes played the entire game in goal, making six saves, en route to a 0-0 double-overtime draw against top-ranked Concordia (Ore.) on Oct. 16. The senior goalie from Mountlake Terrace, Wash., held the Cavalier offense, which averages 2.53 goals per game, scoreless for only the second time this season. The Eagles own a 6-2-3 overall record and are 3-1-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
