KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Amanda Olson of Hastings (Neb.) has been named the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Offensive Player of the Week and Jazmin Alvarez of Concordia (Calif.) has been selected as the National Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Olson and Alvarez were selected based on their performances from Oct. 28 – Nov. 3 and were chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated group winners.

Olson, a Lincoln, Neb., native, had a hand in all five of Hastings goals this week. The senior midfielder scored the game-winner in the Broncos 1-0 double overtime victory over Concordia (Neb.) and added two goals and two assists in the team’s 4-1 win over Mount Marty (S.D.). On the season, Olson leads the team in goals (17) and points (40), while ranking third in assists (6). She also ranks among the NAIA leaders in total goals (22nd, 17), total points (28, 40), total game winning goals (30th, 4), shots per game (32nd, 4.72), goals per game (33rd, .94) and points per game (38th, 2.22). With this week’s victories, Hastings earned the No. 2 seed heading into the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament.

Alvarez, a goaltender from Chino, Calif., helped Concordia clinch its first Golden State Athletic Conference regular-season title in program history with two victories on the week. Alvarez mae six saves in wins over then-No.15 The Master’s (Calif.), 2-1, and Arizona Christian, 7-0. The freshman has yet to lose a game in goal for the Eagles (12-0-3) and has recorded five shutouts on the season. She ranks 7th nationally in goals against average (.620), having allowed just nine goals on the year.
