Northwestern Ohio wins the 2016 NAIA Women?s Soccer National Championship

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – The Northwestern Ohio Racers won the 2016 NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship with a 1-0 win over defending national champion Spring Arbor (Mich.) Saturday evening at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.

In a defensive battle that featured only four shots on frame all game, Hannah Baines had the decisive tally when she finished far post off of Julie Cazanave’s corner kick across the front of the goal.

· Spring Arbor out-shot the Racers 6-5, but put only one shot on frame, while the Racers put 3-of-5 on target
· The teams combined for only one shot in the final 45 minutes, with none on target
· Nadine Stonjek made the only save she needed to make for the Racers to get the shutout win
· The teams also combined for only four corner kicks in the game, with three going to the Racers
· It was the 20th shutout of the season for the Racers and 13th in the last 14 games
