William Carey’s Victoria Vieten Claims Season’s Final Women’s Tennis Player of the Week Award
KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Victoria Vieten of William Carey (Miss.) has been named the NAIA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week following an impressive stretch at the top of the Crusaders’ lineup.
Vieten played a key role in leading William Carey to its sixth Southern States Athletic Conference regular-season championship since joining the league. The Crusaders completed an undefeated 6-0 run through conference play and moved to 14-1 overall behind Vieten’s performances at No. 1 singles and doubles.
The top-line competitor compiled a 9-1 combined record on the week, including a perfect 5-0 mark in No. 1 singles. Her week was highlighted by victories over nationally ranked opponents, including a straight-sets win against No. 9 Maja Brnic of Xavier (La.), 6-3, 6-4, and No. 12 Nahia Echaide of LSU Alexandria, 6-1, 7-5.
Vieten’s consistency helped power key team wins over No. 10 Loyola (La.), No. 6 Xavier (La.), No. 8 LSU Alexandria (La.), and RV LSU Shreveport (La.).
William Carey now turns its attention to the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament, scheduled for April 16-18.
