Women's Outdoor T&F Athletes of the Week - No. 6

By Chad Waller, NAIA Director of Communications & Sports Information

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Gabriella Dixson of Concordia (Ore.) has been named the NAIA National Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of The Week and Jura Levy of Oklahoma Baptist has been honored as the NAIA National Women's Track Athlete of The Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Dixson and Levy were selected based on their performances from April 16 - 22. Levy becomes the fourth-consecutive Bison to win the outdoor track weekly honor.

Dixson, a junior from Battle Ground, Wash., strengthened her hold on the No. 1 spot on the NAIA season chart in the discus throw event. Her toss of 179' 1" was good for 10th among 30 competitors at the Mt. SAC Relays hosted by Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. She set a season best by 17 feet and a career best by 15 feet and now holds a 22-foot lead over the No. 2 thrower in the NAIA this year. Dixson placed as the third highest collegian in the field, which also featured professional and international competitors.

Levy, a freshman from Kingston, Jamaica, collects her second award of the 2012 indoor and outdoor season after she was named on Jan. 25, 2012. In the event hosted by NCAA Division I Baylor University (Texas), Levy turned in a US Olympic "A" standard qualifying time in the 100-meters (11.27) and beat Adidas' Tiffany Townsend, who has the third best time in the event in USA Track and Field. Levy finished first overall and holds the No. 1 mark in the NAIA this year in the 100-meters. All three of her events, which also included the 4x100-meter relays (45.48) and the 4x440-yard relay (3:37.51), were NAIA qualifying standards.
