Sydney Duncan Sets Facility Record Among Her Three Events for Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - IU Kokomo (Ind.) junior Sydney Duncan of Anderson, Indiana, has been named NAIA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week after a standout stretch across two meets that featured national-leading marks, event victories and a facility record.

Duncan opened her week at the Marian Knight Open on March 27, delivering a winning performance in the shot put. She topped a 22-athlete field with a throw of 15 meters, a mark that met the NAIA “A” standard and further cemented her status as the top-ranked shot putter in the nation.

She followed that effort the very next day at the Rose-Hulman Fightin’ Engineers Spring Classic on March 28, where she continued to stack elite results. In the discus, Duncan again hit an NAIA “A” standard and won the event with a throw of 48.97 meters, outdistancing a 14-athlete field. The performance also carried historic significance, as her mark established the all-time facility record at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s Cook Stadium. With that throw, Duncan moved to No. 2 in the national rankings in the discus, giving her two top-two national marks across the throws.

Duncan’s weekend wasn’t limited to two events. She also competed in the hammer throw, placing second in a 12-athlete field with a mark of 45.89 meters, adding another high finish to an already impressive two-day run.

Across three events in two meets, Duncan delivered two NAIA “A” standards, two event wins, a facility record, and national rankings of No. 1 in the shot put and No. 2 in the discus—an exceptional week.
