California Baptist and Mobile Win in Pool B

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Second-seeded California Baptist and Mobile (Ala.) were victorious in Pool B Wednesday in the second day of pool play action at the NAIA Volleyball National Championship Presented by Siouxland Sports Medicine Foundation in the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena.
California Baptist moved to 2-0 in pool play with a 25-19, 25-20, 25-22, win over Taylor (Ind.). The Lancers received 12 kills from both Fei Shi (.296) and Melinda Adelin (.435.), to help California Baptist to a .325 hitting percentage in the match. Krista Hasemeyer and Danielle Sargant, who handed out 25 and 18 assists, respectively, conducted the Lancer offense. Taylor had a 10-kill performance from Kelsey Pritchard in the loss. The Trojans are now 1-1 in pool play.
Mobile rebounded from a first-set 23-25 loss to upset 11th-seeded Vanguard (Calif.), 26-24, 25-18, 25-19. The win moves the Rams to 1-1 in pool play action, while Vanguard drops to 0-2. Mobile was powered behind the net play of Whitney Knight and Paula Stilkey, who registered 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Knight and Stilkey also assisted on three blocks each. Melody Tenney directed Mobile's offense with 38 assists and Alyson Kovacs finished with 17 digs. Vanguard was led by from Heather DeJongh's 16 kills.
Pool B will conclude play on Thursday with Mobile squaring off against Taylor at 1 p.m., followed by Vanguard facing California Baptist at 3:15 p.m.
