Texas at Brownsville Defeats College of Idaho to Advance to Quarterfinals

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Ninth-seeded Texas at Brownsville defeated eighth-seeded College 23-25, 25-19, 25-17, 27-25, Friday to advance to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Volleyball National Championship Presented by Siouxland Sports Medicine Foundation in the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena.
The Scorpions improve to 34-2 on the season and will face top-seeded Fresno Pacific (Calif.) (35-0) at 5:45 p.m. Friday. The match will be video-streamed at www.watchnaia.com and live stats will be available here. The College of Idaho’s season comes to a close with a record of 26-4.
Texas of Brownsville overcame a .230 hitting percentage by having three players finish the match with double-figure kills en route to the victory. Leading the charge was Valquiria Caboclo with 15 kills, followed by 12 from Erica Chimak and Arlene Ferreifa had 11. Daianarah Bracero directed the Scorpions offense with 42 assists and also contributed on the defensive front with 11 digs. Ferreira joined Bracero with a double-double, posting 13 digs. Rafaella Dornelas had a match-high 25 digs.
The Coyotes were unable to overcome 23 hitting errors, a .160 hitting percentage and five service errors. Kathryn Ely was the offensive spark for the College of Idaho with 11 kills, behind 21 and 18 assists from Naomi Reimer and Madie Machurek.
