Top 25 Poll - No. 5
Teams two-through-eight also held their positions from last week. Embry-Riddle (Fla.) remained No. 2 with 568 points after improving to 6-0 in The Sun Conference with wins over Warner (Fla.) and Webber International (Fla.) in the last week. Third-ranked Concordia (Calif.), coming off a significant 3-0 win at No. 6 Fresno Pacific (Calif.) in the “NAIA Match of the Week” on Oct. 1, grabbed 556 points. Columbia (Mo.) checks in again at No. 4 with 530 points and Lee (Tenn.) remains at No. 5 with 515 points.
Indiana Wesleyan made the biggest jump in the new poll, going from receiving votes one week ago to No. 19 this week. The Wildcats enjoyed a week in which they upset three ranked teams, including then-No. 9 Indiana Tech, previously sixteenth-ranked Madonna (Mich.) and then-No. 25 Indiana East. Head coach Candace Moats has led Indiana Wesleyan to an 18-3 overall record and 7-1 Mid-Central College Conference mark.
Indiana East, ranked No. 25 last week, was the only team to drop out of the poll. The Red Wolves suffered straight-set losses to Indiana Tech and Indiana Wesleyan over the past week. Meanwhile, Madonna (Mich.) experienced the largest fall as it moved from No. 16 to No. 23 due to losses in three of its last four matches.
The Golden State Athletic Conference boasts six schools in the poll for the third-consecutive week and leads all conferences. The GSAC is represented by No. 3 Concordia, No. 6 Fresno Pacific, No. 8 Azusa Pacific (Calif.), No. 9 Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.), No. 15 Biola (Calif.) and No. 22 Vanguard (Calif.). The Frontier Conference ranked second with three members included in the Top 25. Five leagues placed two teams in the rankings.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Independents. The next poll will be announced on Oct. 11.
